May The Life Force Be With You

Have you ever wondered about the animating force that moves through your body? Most of us move through our days without giving much thought to the subtle energy that wakes us up in the morning and powers us down at night. We don't plug into a socket to recharge, yet something real and vital keeps us going.


Ancient cultures had names for it. The yogis of India referred to it as prana. In Chinese medicine, it's qi. The Japanese call it ki. These all speak to the same thing: the essential life force that fuels our bodies, minds, and spirits.


In scientific terms, this energy has a biochemical counterpart. It comes from the complex interplay of neurotransmitters, hormones, and nutrients. Every thought, bite of food, and emotional response either adds to your reservoir of energy or pulls from it. When energy feels low, when there's brain fog, exhaustion, or emotional heaviness, something is draining that vitality. It might be the food you eat.


It may be due to constant exposure to stress, noise, or conflict. It might be your thoughts, especially when they spiral into fear or overanalysis.

The truth is, we live in an era where energy leaks are prevalent. But that doesn't mean you're powerless. Even with the chaos outside, you still have agency. You can learn to protect and rebuild your life force, one choice at a time.


Yoga, meditation, and breathwork are not just soothing rituals. They are fundamental tools for regulating the nervous system and maintaining glandular balance. They help the body shift out of fight-or-flight and return to a calm, replenished state. That affects your sleep, digestion, hormones, and mood. They build resilience, not just emotionally but chemically.


A simple practice I share with clients is energetic math. Every habit, thought, food, word, or relationship either adds to or subtracts from your life force. Recognizing what drains you is the first step. The second is replacing those drains with life-giving choices such as rest, movement, connection, breath, real food, and creative expression.

Ask yourself: Is this adding to my life force, or taking from it?


Here are some ways you can charge up your life force and maintain it everyday:


Daily Breathwork and Movement Practice

These short, powerful practices help activate your energy system, clear out mental fog, and regulate your mood. They are a great way to start the day or reset in the afternoon. Even one minute of each can make a difference.


  • Spinal Flex (1–3 minutes): Opens energy in the spine and wakes up the nervous system

  • Spinal Twist (1–3 minutes): Detoxifies the organs and stimulates spinal fluid movement

  • Stretch Pose (1–3 minutes): Strengthens the core and builds willpower

  • Ego Eradicator (1–3 minutes): Clears mental clutter and resets the energy field with Breath of Fire


A daily practice of movement and breathwork sets the tone for your day and provides the foundation you need to be more mindful and choose thoughts that give you energy instead of taking it away.


Mindfulness and Embodiment Practice

Here's a practice to bring more awareness and choice to your internal world:

  1. Notice what's happening without judgment. Say to yourself, "Oh, interesting. I'm doing that thing I do."

  2. Slow down and take a conscious breath.

  3. Look around your space. Name what you see. Feel your feet on the ground. Let your mind arrive in the moment.

  4. Tune into the emotion underneath the thinking. Let it rise. Breathe through it. Allow it to move through your body. Cry, shake, sigh, or release in any way that feels natural.

  5. When you're ready, shift your focus to what you're creating or looking forward to. If you're navigating a difficult situation, try imagining the best possible outcome for everyone involved.

  6. Keep redirecting your attention when you notice it drifting back to fear, looping thoughts, or trying to fix things that are not ready to be solved. Return to your breath. Return to the moment.


A client once described this process as "mental gymnastics." She was right. It takes strength. But daily practice builds that strength. With movement, breath, and self-awareness as your foundation, you begin to navigate life with greater clarity, ease, and power.


Both ancient wisdom and modern science remind us that we have more influence than we realize. One breath, one thought, one small act of care at a time, you can support your own energy and well-being.
